Verr/Goat

"The verr was a mountain goat indigenous to the Voltai. It was a wild, agile, ill-tempered beast, long-haired and spiral-horned. Among the Voltai crags it would be worth one's life to come within twenty yards of one."

~Priest-Kings of Gor~

The wild VERR is a mountain goat indigenous to the Voltai Range. They are agile, ill-tempered creatures with long hair and spiraling horns.

The common verr is also refered to as the HORNED VERR. The females are known as 'she-verr' and the young are known as 'verr kids'.

The domesticated verr is similar in appearance to the wild verr, though smaller in size with a much more manageable temperament.

Nomads of the desert also keep verr, though they do not eat its meat. The animals are too precious for their trade value, and their wool and milk, to be often slaughtered for food.

The verr however is just one variety of MOUNTAIN GOAT ... other goats also exist on Gor, such as those in the mountains of Thentis.

There is a caste known as the Goat Keepers who deal in the herding and keeping of verr and other goats - as well as the marsupial hurt.

IN ROLEPLAY

Verr meat is a bit gamey tasting and can be prepared as roasts, chops or used in stews.

Verr milk or cream is an alternative to bosk milk, and can also be used to make butter or cheese. It is almost like goats milk, which is slightly sweet and also slightly salty in taste.

If similar to goat cheese, we can assume verr cheese would have a slightly tangy, bitter and musky taste.

The "wool" of the verr is actually the fur of its underbelly, and its skin might be used for bedding or clothing.
