The Great Library of Gor - Q&A

 ------------ *** GENERAL ABOUT THE LIBRARY ***------------

Q: Who owns this place (IC and OOC)?

A: OOC, the library is owned by Tycho Celestalis and maintained by him and Elara Jupiter. IC, it is owned by Tycho of Ar, Scholarch, of the caste of Scribes.

Q: Could my sim have a recruitment/advertising poster here?

A: Yes, a poster exchange (we put up your poster and you put up ours) is possible, if your sim is a learning sim and/or specifically welcomes new participants and helps them get oriented. Please contact Tycho Celestalis.

------------ *** CONTENTS ***------------

Q: Why don't you have any material on ...?

A: Either because we haven't found any that is good enough to include in the collections, because nobody has submitted any, or because we haven't had time to edit, compile or write any from scratch yet. Please scroll down for submission guidelines if you want to contribute to the collections.

Q: Where can I get copies of the Gor books?

A: From a number of online bookstores or possibly brick and mortar antiquarian bookstores.

Q: I meant for free, on SL. Why don't you have them in the library?

A: Because it's an obvious copyright violation.

Q: I've been to some libraries that have thousands of scrolls. Why doesn't yours?

A: Because every single one of ours has actually been read and vetted. Those thousands of scrolls tend to include five duplicates of the same "adjectives for serving", copies of sim rules and IRC channel rules of places long gone, random people's RP logs and even things that have nothing whatsoever to do with Gor. Ours doesn't: everything on the shelves is there for a purpose.

------------ *** SUBMISSIONS AND LOANS ***------------

Q: I have some great information that's missing from your library. Do you accept submissions?

A: Yes, we do accept submissions of quality material, especially on topics not yet covered. Scrolls can be forwarded to Tycho Celestalis or Elara Jupiter.

There are a few reservations, though. Please don't submit material in bulk (such as lift the entire contents of someone's library and dump it on us). We also won't accept material that is slanderous towards recognisable sims or individuals, or  obviously geared towards a medium other than SL (for example, for an IRC channel).

Note also that any material submitted to the Great Library, apart from original stories and poetry, is subject to editing for language and formatting. Explanatory notes may be added and the text, if long, may be shortened.

Q: Can I take things for my own library from here?

A: Certainly.  We would only ask you to honour the following common sense guidelines:

Grabbing absolutely everything and plonking it down in your own library without as much as looking at what you got is against the idea and purpose of the Great Library. Please don't perpetuate the trend of libraries full of random junk.

If a text includes a credit to the original author in it, leave the credit in.

Some of the texts which have been written or edited specifically for this library contain notes or disclaimers, such as "[NOTE: The Great Library offers this text as a historical curiosity only]". You may replace the name of your own library in these.

The Library staff and slaves wish you well!
