This is to teach you the rules of battle role-play. It is not to teach battle skills or to actually teach the content of the role-play. I will be giving examples, but these are only examples to give you an idea of what is expected during battle role-play in Gor.
There are certain rules that must be followed or the battle will be called invalid, making any captures or kills void. The main thing to remember is if it can’t happen in RL it cannot happen in Gor. If you always follow that rule you will do fine.
The first thing you need to do is arrive at the battle. Everyone whether you are arriving at the beginning of the battle or coming to answer a call for help in the middle, must enter through the LM and run to the battle. You cannot be teleported into battle.
Once engaged you are there until the battle is over, or until you have fallen and then either been aided, captured or killed. You cannot leave under any other circumstances unless you are ordered to return home by a superior. There are no safezones once you have engaged in battle. You may return to the safezone, but you will not be safe. Once you have fallen and been aided you are considered injured and may return to the safezone and tp out from there, or continue in battle, that is up to you, unless you are ordered home by a superior. You must run back to the safezone before teleporting out. If you fall again before getting there, you will need to be aided again before continuing.
Captures and kills
Three lines of text are required for captures or kills. Do not get stressed if the content is not what you think it should be. It will come with time. The important thing is that you follow the three lines of text rule and that what you role-play could realistically happen. Always pay attention to the RP going on around you so it all ties together and makes sense.
Always break or take the weapons, always search for and remove all hidden weapons, so if the battle turns and they are aided they cannot easily return to fighting you. Some panthers will carry birds. So you want to search for these and remove them as well. Always use a knot when binding captives or they will easily untie them. Following is one example of a capture and one of a kill.
Example one: Capture
1. Kneels down next to the panther taking her bow, tossing it over the side of the dock into the water. Removes the bird in the cage attached to her leg, killing it.
2. Pulls a dagger from his belt cutting the clothes from her body, searches her torso, legs and then arms for hidden weapons removing them all putting them in his belt.
3. Takes two lengths of binding leather from his pouch, roughly pulling her hands behind her binding them together using the so called gorean knot. Moves down to her feet pulling them together binding them again using a gorean knot.
Example two: Kill
1.Walks over to the warrior laying on the ground, kicking the sword from his reach
2.Drops one knee hard in the middle of his back, reaches down taking the warriors dagger from his belt.
3. Grabs a hand full of hair yanking back hard, exposing his throat, reaches around dragging the dagger slowly across his throat watching as the life force drains from him turning the ground crimson.
Aiding and being aided.
Aiding someone that has not been bound is very simple and only requires one line of text.
Example three: Aiding without binds
Walks over, extends his hand helping Kal to his feet.
Being aided after being bound is fairly simple too, just make sure you cut their binds before helping them to their feet.
Example four: Aiding with binds
Kneels down next to Kal, pulling a dagger from his waist cuts the binds on his wrists helping him sit up, then reaches down cutting the binds from his ankles helping him to his feet
Always remember if you are being aided you have to pay attention to what the person that bound you did with your weapons. If they took them or destroyed them, then you have no weapons to continue fighting, so you are done, unless you have a realistic way to retrieve your weapons or acquire new ones. You cannot magically find a weapon lying on the ground or suddenly have a backup bow. Without weapons your only choice is to try to return to the safezone and tp home.
Being captured or killed.
Capture and Kill rules are established by the rules in the sim and vary. You are bound by the rules of the sim the battle is fought in, unless there are prearranged rules of engagement, in which case you will want to make sure you are made aware of those rules before going into battle. Most sims use a 12hr-death rule and 3 day capture or force collar. You never have to submit to a collar, just remember the alternative may be death. In most cases a party will be sent to either rescue you, or negotiate your release. If neither is successful you are theirs to do with as they wish according to the rules of the sim or the prearranged rules of engagement. But don’t worry, we won’t leave you there.
If someone on the opponents side breaks these rules that does not make it ok for you to break them. Put it in a notecard and give it to the next in command. If they decide the infraction makes the battle invalid they will pass it on to the Ubar and he will take it up with the opposing sides leaders. In the absence of the Ubar the highest ranking warrior on the field of battle will make the decision on whether or not to call the battle invalid. Do not take it upon yourself to argue or accuse the opposing side, it will only alienate them. The Ubar will take care of it.
